The Gold Coast Airport precinct is currently under construction and will see the development of a four-star $50 million-dollar hotel, complementing the new terminal extension which is currently underway.
Queensland Airports Ltd board was impressed by the high quality of design and landscaped outcome proposed for the project, which were determining factors in the selection process for the successful developer.
The new hotel will feature a rooftop bar with views over the runway, across to Coolangatta Beach and north across the sandy coastline. The 192-room hotel will have ocean and hinterland views. The hotel sits in a beautifully landscaped, lush subtropical ground plane. A convention space for 150 people will be included in the project, in addition to a separate rooftop function area for 100 people. A rooftop gymnasium will overlook the beach and have views south towards Byron Bay. A ground floor indoor/outdoor restaurant will open onto a 25-metre resort style lap pool. The basement will contain 80 car parks for patrons.
Queensland Airports, who own the airport, are pleased with the outcome of the tender and the quality of the design that has been agreed to. They are looking forward to the asset being delivered and operated to complement the growing international profile of the airport.
