The Brisbane Live Masterplan for Roma Street is a vision for the future of Brisbane city. The precinct includes entertainment, parklands, commercial, residential, dining and retail. Creating a destination for the western edge of the Brisbane CBD, the plaza acts as a connecting device linking several key areas including Suncorp stadium and The Victoria Barracks, The Normanby 5 ways, Roma Street Parklands, Southbank & Kuripla. The precinct will deliver an additional 12 hectares of subtropical parkland and recreation space to enhance the existing Roma Street Parklands. The precinct also integrates major public transport & infrastructure including the historic Roma Street station and platforms, the proposed Cross River Rail, future Brisbane Metro and the relocation of the existing transit centre underground.
The precinct features Brisbane Arena, an iconic 17,000 seat venue able to host a multitude of events from music to indoor sports. The form of the Arena is inspired by fluidity and movement associated with the historic Roma Street site. The Roma Street edge includes 3 towers delivering commercial, hotel & a signature 90 storey residential tower defining the city frame. The podium to Roma Street would host a variety of retail, dining & cinema attractions to enliven the street edge.
The western edges of the precinct host 3 future cultural facilities inspired by organic shapes and fluidity, able to provide uses such as theatres & museums. The existing parkland residential band is continued with proposed apartments offering premium subtropical lifestyle within the expansive parkland setting. The northern edge of the precinct has the potential to host residential, educational & research facilities enhancing the educational hub along College road.
Brisbane Live delivers a culturally rich addition to Brisbane creating entertainment and recreation for the public whilst enhancing the subtropical vision for Brisbane city. A truly connected and socially responsive project revitalising an underutilised space within the Brisbane CBD.
