Completed in June 2019, this beach front luxury private residence is located adjacent to the Noosa National Park and fronts Sunshine Beach. The property is an exemplar in sustainable design and has been designed to be carbon neutral. The owner’s desire aligned with the NRA collaborative’s design philosophy which was to capitalise on the existing natural environment and landscape, and to embrace a strong sustainable response to its context. This approach has guided our design team to create an enduring building that is partially underground and hugs the landscape contours. This unique sculptural structure also employs natural building materials including Accoya timbers, concrete and stone. Also, Hempcrete has been used for composite wall construction internally. Hempcrete has excellent insulation values as well as assists with the thermal balancing for the internal climate and acoustic control. The concrete structural shells used for the roof supports a native landscape roof covering, which assists to blend the building’s form into the natural dune system and national park.
